Technology and innovation are major drivers of development. Therefore,
many systems including organizations, governments, institutions, and schools
are always looking to leverage on these two. In the Nigerian educational
ecosystem, however, only a few of the institutions can completely pull this
off. Thanks partly to the meagre attention paid to education in the country.
As a result, when universities are recognized for their
endeavours in innovation, we become interested in the metrics; why they deserve
the award? Recently, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka won the award for the
Most Innovative Federal University in the country at the Nigeria Technology Awards. We are particularly glad
that higher institutions are being recognized for their efforts in innovation.
But the big question is what the university has done right when it comes to
technology and innovation?
A little research has shown us that the University has been
especially seamless in giving transcripts to its students, leveraging the use
of technology so that they can access their transcripts without having to be
physically present in the school. Those who have been in this situation where
there is an urgent need for academic transcripts know that this is life made
easier (hello…graduates in diaspora).
With the support of leading identity management solutions
provider, Seamfix Nigeria Limited, the university has been able to create a
platform called iTranscript, where graduates from the university can make
requests for the transcripts from wherever they are in the world and get it on
the go.
One of the roles of innovation is to make processes easier
for everyone. In this regard, the University of Nigeria has done a good job leveraging
on it to make life easier for its alumni. This is therefore something that universities
should key into. And why not? We have companies like Seamfix Nigeria Limited
who are part of new generation companies that create solutions that make life
easier for organizations, institutions, and everyone else. We can therefore be glad that the
Nigerian Technology Awards recognize the efforts of the university and in our
opinion, this recognition is truly deserved.
