PORNOGRAPHY: BLAME TECHNOLOGY?

i once went through my browser history and found that my 13 year old had searched the internet for a 12 year old girlfriend. The search result presented a lot of options to choose from, too many options. A few links also pointed him to porn sites...

The advent of the internet has revolutionised the world, making  communication swift, easy, efficient and convenient. As technology evolves, it continues to pervade lives & minds; with more people embracing the new media, tech companies have developed smartphones (and other devices) powerful enough to keep people connected to the social media and internet while on the go; inadvertently fostering increase in pornography consumption.

What is bad about pornography?

For anything to be pornographic it must be through a medium; this is where media ties into the subject. Pornographic contents are consumed through various media forms like video games, sculpture, animations, sound recording, books, magazines, music, and movies etc.

With technological advancement, pornography is easily accessible. The internet makes it easier, faster, and relatively free to get pornography. Thus, there is no pornography without the media seeing that the channels for pornography consumption are forms of media. The concern for TechiPOLICE is the fact that children are exposed to sexually explicit content on the internet, music videos and devices of adults around them.

Can we say that technology has done more good to the family than harm?

Pornography is a phenomenon that attracts global debate and its negatives outweigh the positives. Though the highest revenue item on the internet, there have been arguments on its place in society and the need to eradicate porn. While some have opposed this move there has been uproar from religious, feminist, health, governmental and non-governmental groups. The media has been accused of fostering the pornography distribution through tech devices, at such there is pressure on the media to actively participate in the fight against pornography.

TechiePOLICE is anti-porn and pro-family.

Who should be blamed for pornography consumption increase among children? What’s bad about pornography?

Technology and innovation are major drivers of development. Therefore, many systems including organizations, governments, institutions, and schools are always looking to leverage on these two. In the Nigerian educational ecosystem, however, only a few of the institutions can completely pull this off. Thanks partly to the meagre attention paid to education in the country.
